It didn’t have to be this bad

Really. It didn't.

Thanks to the utter ignorance of a collection of tRump-adoring states mired in conspiracy theories, we’ve experienced another surge of COVID, delta flavor. We no sooner dared to shed our masks when the surge reared its head again. Now, as fall kicks, in we’re still ambivalent. Kids are back to school in person, masked (for the most part, amid bitching anti-maskers). In-person meetings are resuming. Restaurants are open for in-person dining. Things seem pretty much under control here in Connecticut with the infection rate hovering around 2 percent, though the clusterfuck continues in primarily Red states.

Covidiots’ blatant refusal to follow commonsense measures – vaccinations, masking, limiting mass gatherings  – have again led to a surge in hospitalizations, with the burden on already stressed healthcare workers, of course. Hospitals have run out of ICU beds and bed in general. But in their “my body, my choice” ignorance, they don’t give a flying fuck about the effect of their stupidity on those around them.

The deathbed regrets are laughable. Sorry, but I have no sympathy for those who refused to get a readily available vaccine and are expressing regrets while hooked up to a ventilator. The facts are readily available. They chose to believe in conspiracy theories and lies. And their ignorance is bringing down all of us.

In Florida and Texas, edicts have been enacted by the states’ incompetent governors, Abbott and DeSantis, to ban masks in schools as kids, who under 12 cannot be vaccinated, return to in-person classes. What the fuck is their problem? Do they have a death wish for their residents? Do they not realize that dead people cannot vote Republican?

Articles abound about how to reason with anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers, encouraging compassion and understanding. Sorry. There is no understanding them. Facts are facts. Dig a little deeper and the framework for creation of the vaccine was in place before COVID raised its ugly head. Scientist buckled down and got to work immediately. Many of us scrambled to get appointments as soon as the vaccine was available. Now they’re giving out beer and donuts and $100 to get people vaccinated. President Biden has gone from gentle cajoling to “Get the damn vaccine.” And they’re throwing out doses that could have save lives, while countries are begging for vaccines.

Yes, I’m judging.
